Even 12 years after its release, the first trailer of GTA V was seen by “only” 112 million people, but it seems that GTA VI is a much bigger phenomenon…
We still have to wait a long time until the release of Grand Theft Auto VI – until the fall of 2025, to be exact. Rockstar is known to be working very hard to make their next big open-world game a huge hit. At the same time, we can’t forget that more than seven months have passed since the “big R” released the first trailer for GTA VI. It’s pretty rare that the very first trailer of a game makes gaming history…
As the community wants to know more about the game, new people are always watching the trailer for the first time. And others like to watch it again occasionally to see if they find something they had previously overlooked. And that means a lot of viewing as the weeks and months go by.
This is proven by the fact that a few hours ago, the GTA VI trailer reached 200 million views on YouTube!
For comparison, GTA V’s first trailer has 112 million views in 12 years.
It should not be forgotten that the game’s trailer achieved 3 Guinness World Records 24 hours after its release on December 5, 2023. One was about views, another was about “likes”, and the last one was about being the most viewed non-music video on the first day. But if Rockstar wants theirs to be the most viewed video game video on YouTube, they still need to surpass the 361 million views of Subway Surfers, which has been popular on mobile since 2012.
Anticipation for GTA VI is much higher than for GTA V
As the CEO of Take-Two said a few months ago, the anticipation for Grand Theft Auto VI is much, much higher than for GTA V: “We don’t dare to make predictions about how the title will perform, but it is clear that the expectation is very, very high. We strive for perfection, and when we think we’ve optimized the creativity, it’s time to release,” said Strauss Zelnick. Grand Theft Auto VI will be released in fall 2025 for PS5 and Xbox X Series X/S, with the PC version likely to land sometime in 2026.
