Koei Tecmo has Reached an Out-of-Court Settlement with the Thieving Youzu!

Youzu (also known as Yoozoo Games) has essentially been forced to pay an unspecified amount of money to the Japanese publisher…

Koei Tecmo reached an out-of-court settlement with the Chinese company for copyright infringement on two of its games. Youzu admitted and apologized for stealing Nobunaga’s Ambition and Taiko Risshiden. According to the Japanese company, Youzu continued to use images and music from the games in its mobile games without obtaining permission from Koei Tecmo. Sengoku Legend: Uprising, Infinity Kingdom, and Dynasty Origins were among the games in which the stolen elements were found. According to Koei Tecmo, Youzu violated the rights in a way that misled users and partners.

Despite the Japanese publisher’s attempts to remedy the infringement situation, the threatening letters went nowhere, and Youzu lied when it promised to remove all infringing content, which it continued to do. That’s why Koei Tecmo decided to go to court, because there was simply no other way to solve the problem… and Youzu couldn’t just ignore everything, because that would only make an already problematic situation worse.

“Youzu] admitted to infringing our copyrights and trademarks by creating and distributing their online advertisements and formally apologized for the immense inconvenience caused to us. In the settlement, we reached an agreement and decided on measures to prevent further infringement in the future. We have determined that the terms of the settlement are consistent with our intellectual property policy. Therefore, we decided to accept the settlement,” Koei Tecmo said in a statement. So they won fairly easily…

Although details are not available, the last time there was such an out-of-court settlement (between Nintendo and the developers of the Switch emulator Yuzu), there was a larger compensation payment. This time is certainly no different.
