Astro Bot: The Devs Reveal Why Their Game Is So “Colourful and Innocent”!

While other first-party studios have gone “from making cartoony games to slightly more mature games,” Team Asobi has stuck to “all-ages” projects, at least in the case of Astro Bot…

PlayStation will soon surprise the world with one of the most colourful experiences ever released exclusively for PS5! This is Astro Bot. Many gamers were surprised that Sony would push the release of such an innocent title. Especially after it won the community’s hearts with darker and/or more realistic-looking adventure games like The Last of Us, Horizon and Uncharted. However, it turned out that the creators of the new platformer, Team Asobi, don’t want to go that way.

VGC media visited Team Asobi’s offices to learn more about the birth of Astro Bot. The authors’ working methods and the company’s philosophy. In this regard, Nicolas Doucet, head of the studio, revealed that the developer’s true passion is when he approaches projects: “If you consider the history of PlayStation and how every studio has positioned themselves, it’s interesting that – and this is also what I show management – as the audience of PlayStation grew, a lot of these [studios] went from making cartoon games to a little bit more mature, hyper-realistic games.”

“That’s when we at Team Asobi as a studio decided that we really wanted to fill that gap, that used to be the gap filled by other studios 20-25 years ago,” continues the professional.

“That’s really where we want to be: all ages, colorful etc. Even if we made a horror game, it would be a funny horror game.” The facts prove all of this: Astro Bot’s first reviews recognize the PS5-exclusive game not only for its vibrant colours and adorableness of the robot but also for its original challenges that both kids and adults can enjoy.

What’s next for Astro Bot?

The PlayStation mascot, Astro Bot, has already made its way into the hearts of gamers with the previous game ASTRO BOT: Rescue Mission and Astro’s Playroom, made for PS VR. However, the Asobi team moved every stone with the robot’s new adventure. It’s an experience that, in addition to recalling Sony’s achievements in the world of video games, also stands as one of the best platform games of recent times. I’m sure there will be more games with the title character…
