Samsung Knox: The Future of Passwordless Security

TECH NEWS – Staying productive has never been easier thanks to our devices. Today, our lifestyle is characterized by significant connectivity, from smartphones to smart homes. However, this connectivity can raise concerns about the security of our devices and data.

Samsung places great importance on ensuring peace of mind when using a connected device ecosystem: Knox Vault, Passkeys, and Knox Matrix all work to protect users and their digital lives.

Samsung continuously explores ways to enhance the security of its devices through software and hardware developments. One such example is the hardware-based Knox Vault, which combines a secure processor with secure memory to isolate the most sensitive data—such as PIN codes, passkeys, and biometric information—from the rest of the device, ensuring that no one else can access the user’s data.

As the use of connected devices increases, the company is extending Knox Vault to more devices1, making the enhanced secure mobile experience available to a broader audience. Samsung’s primary goal remains the security of personal data, and it is committed to advancing its technologies following this principle.

Passkeys: Simpler and Safer Use Across Multiple Devices

As more devices are added to our digital ecosystem, we have all experienced the inconvenience of logging into various apps or websites with lengthy, complicated, and hard-to-remember passwords. But what if these passwords could disappear while still allowing secure information sharing across multiple devices?

This is Samsung’s vision for passkeys—digital credentials that can be used for logging in and authenticating on websites and apps. Thanks to Knox Matrix, the service is already available on Galaxy smartphones and tablets2. Passkeys enable users to log into apps and websites on Galaxy devices using Samsung Pass3 within the Samsung Wallet. This secure and simple function allows users to authenticate using biometrics—such as fingerprints—eliminating the need to remember passwords or reset forgotten ones. Passkeys, which are convenient without compromising security, represent an important step toward a password-free future.

Passkeys provide faster, simpler, and safer device use. You can save time by no longer typing in usernames on your device—just select the account you want to sign in to. After registering passkeys, it is easy to switch to a new connected device without having to log in again. Passkeys work only on websites and apps chosen by users, providing protection against potential phishing attacks.

Knox Matrix: Connected Protection

In a connected world, passkeys offer new ways to protect identities and user data, and are part of Credential Sync, a key element of Knox Matrix. We live in an age where everything from our phones to our TVs and refrigerators can communicate with each other. This connectivity offers exciting new opportunities, but also poses an increased risk of abuse. Traditional security solutions that protect individual devices are no longer always sufficient, as an attack on a single device could endanger others within the same ecosystem, requiring new, extended layers of protection.

This is why Samsung developed Knox Matrix, the next frontier of security and its vision for a safer future. The security system offers a comprehensive approach that becomes increasingly important as more of our devices connect, transforming our homes into intelligent shields and protecting our ecosystem of connected devices. Knox Matrix acts as the user’s private blockchain, allowing compatible devices to check each other for potential security vulnerabilities.

Credential Sync secures user data during data transfer between devices, simplifying the login process while encrypting sensitive information. By sharing credentials between devices, Samsung aims to protect users’ device ecosystems—ensuring that security is not sacrificed for connectivity or convenience.

Knox Matrix, with the help of Trust Chain, provides even more advanced protection for our connected devices. Through Trust Chain, devices can review each other to search for threats, notify when an attack occurs, and share steps to mitigate the threat. Additionally, the Cross-Platform SDK function unifies the security standards of devices running different operating systems and platforms—including Android, Tizen, and Windows—so they can simultaneously connect to the Knox Matrix system.

The company is committed to enabling us to freely and comfortably navigate the connected world of our devices now and in the future, ensuring that users can maximize their digital devices with Knox Vault and Knox Matrix. Moving towards a passwordless future, these effective solutions provide the kind of protection we can trust.
