Bungie to Compensate NERF Gun Artist for Their Work!

The studio owned by Sony (whose CEO was asked to leave by former employees of the company…) will finally compensate the artist behind the gun.

Bungie has recently announced how the expansion of Destiny 2 will continue, and they have published a timetable for the game’s expansions. The announcement also revealed the NERF (Ace of Spades) rifle, which Bungie and Hasbro are co-creating based on one of Destiny 2’s most popular weapons. That would be fine, but it turns out that a fan artwork was stolen by the studio, and even though it’s a design created nine years ago, it’s not like Bungie stole a fan artwork without saying a word…

Tofu Rabbit then took to social media, tagging Bungie and their design accounts, and how the NERF gun looks a lot like the one they created in 2015. They mentioned direct comparisons and pointed out that it wasn’t a resemblance or a coincidence, as they even copied the same brush strokes, scratches and dirt. According to them, Bungie had no right to use their fan artwork, while many people thought the opposite.

They also contacted The Verge and told them that Bungie had been polite and encouraging in private messages, and that they hoped the situation would be resolved soon, as this was not the first time Bungie had stolen from fans in this way. It’s no joke, as we saw a similar story in September 2021 and again last June. After the Lightfall incident, Destiny 2’s social media team wrote in a statement that the artist had been apologized to, properly credited, and paid for his work…

To even order (!?) a $50 replica of Cayde’s hand cannon, you have to achieve Legend status in the game, which takes a lot of work, and Bungie has promised to change that in Destiny 2. In any case, the studio has gone a little off the rails here as well. One mistake after another from the studio…
