The yet-to-be-announced next-generation hardware from the big N (which the Japanese company will surely have to talk about soon…) has been rumored from another Asian country this time.
Taiwan’s Economic Daily News has reported what it thinks of the yet-to-be officially named console. According to them, market speculation is that the Nintendo Switch 2’s screen will be larger and feature two displays. It will be able to play longer on battery power compared to the current Switch. The publication also hopes for an improvement in performance and image quality.
It is believed that there will also be some AI-related features in Nintendo Switch 2, which has been priced: it is estimated that you can buy the next platform from the big N for around $400, which is 30% more expensive than the basic Switch and slightly more expensive than the Nintendo Switch OLED. That’s understandable, because the Switch is already seven and a half years old hardware (let’s not count the OLED display model for now…), so the more modern (but supposedly held back for quite some time?) hardware will understandably be more expensive.
The publication adds that Nintendo is said to have reacted to Sony’s move. After all, Sony unveiled the PlayStation 5 Pro last week, and because of that, the big N is now scheduled to unveil the Switch 2 by the end of the calendar year, which means we’ll definitely see the Japanese company’s new platform in official form sometime this year (officially, it’s supposed to happen by the end of the fiscal year, so it’ll be unveiled by the end of March, so it could be at least three months early). The reason Nintendo is still in stores with the Switch right now is because they want to make money from games and IP licensing, as Switch sales are starting to slow down considerably (so not sure if it will catch up with the record-breaking PS2).
But they also talked about two screens. Will they really follow the Nintendo DS format?
