The Danish studio doesn’t want Project 007 to be just a one-off outing, but more than that.
Hakan Abrak, CEO of IO Interactive, told IGN in an interview that they’re working with the young Bond agent to create a franchise, not just a single episode: “The exciting thing about this project is that we actually got to do an original story. So it’s not a gamification of a movie. It’s completely beginning and becoming a story, hopefully for a big trilogy out there in the future. And just as importantly and excitingly, it’s a new Bond. It’s a Bond that we built from the ground up for players.
It’s extremely exciting, with all the tradition and all the history that’s there, to be working together with the family to create a young Bond for gamers; a Bond that gamers can call their own and grow with. I don’t want to talk too big about it, but I just hope that we’re doing something that will define James Bond in gaming for years to come. And that is not just a game, but that we create a universe that gamers can own for many years to come and grow with alongside the Bond of the movies,” Abrak said.
According to the head of IO Interactive, development is going extremely well, although that doesn’t really help us know when we’ll be able to see and hear more of the game the team has been working on for several years (Hitman III is almost four years old now). Maybe we’ll get a video of the project at The Game Awards in December. It’s about time!
The interview also mentioned that IO Interactive has signed a deal with Build to publish Rocket Boy’s MindsEye game, but we covered that in more detail yesterday. This game also looks promising, as one of Rockstar’s former big men is the director!
