Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024: Overcoming Early Challenges

A week and a half after its release, Asobo Studio’s game might be at the point where it’s not hard to get it running.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 was released for Xbox Series and PC on November 19th, but many players have run into the mistake of getting nowhere after the initial queue screen. Those who managed to get past that were met with the loading screen (not far from the end either, at 97%), but those who made it past that encountered other bugs: some assets loaded very slowly, or some aircraft were missing from the library…

Jörg Neumann, the Flight Simulator manager, responded with a statement on their website, pointing out that Asobo Studio had been able to fix the initial bugs: “We are happy to report that the access and streaming issues have been resolved. The capacity of the distribution layer has been increased to handle the immense interest in the simulator, and reliability is now above 99.99%. Our servers and services are also performing as expected. We are currently preparing another patch for the week of December 2nd with further stability improvements and other fixes. We then plan to release a third, larger patch during the week of December 9th.

The first quick fix came three days after the release, on November 22, and improved stability and fixed many other bugs related to the experience. It said that third-party add-ons made for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 (the previous installment) were causing significant bugs in the new installment, preventing it from launching. Until they can determine what’s causing the problem, they are temporarily blocking all non-flight content from the previous installment.

The December 9th patch will allow users to turn content on and off to remove problematic content from Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, and will also include a safe boot feature to turn off external content in case the simulator fails.
