Ryan Reynolds’ Crazy Idea: Was the Deadpool Star Planning a “Reimagining” of a Disney Classic?!

MOVIE NEWS – Ryan Reynolds talks about his latest film’s “ideas”…

Ryan Reynolds certainly didn’t miss the opportunity to poke fun at Disney in Deadpool & Wolverine. Specifically, he managed to sneak in a joke about Pinocchio, which later turned out to be a reference to Mickey Mouse. Now, the actor has revealed that the company didn’t want to compromise on an idea that they felt would have made the film very strange…

“We don’t touch Bambi,” Ryan Reynolds was told

During a chat with Andrew Garfield (The Amazing Spider-Man) for Variety’s Actors on Actors series, Marvel’s loudmouth claimed that he went so far as to pitch Kevin Feige an idea that would have brought back the guy who killed Bambi’s mother: He claims he pitched him a two-person story that would have featured him and the hunter who shot Bambi’s mother.

The response was, “We don’t touch Bambi, Ryan.”

“This is the crossover we’ve all been waiting for,” Garfield added with a chuckle. We’re not sure how much of what he said is true. It could just be another joke from the famously sly actor. But the idea, as crazy as it may sound to us, probably wouldn’t have really stuck out as one of the film’s wacky jokes.

“It was meant to be, because the first pitch I had for Marvel and Kevin Feige five years ago was a Deadpool-Wolverine movie in the “Rashomon” style, which is his perspective, then mine, then an objective. And they said no. So then I pitched the most idiotic movies. One was a Sundance movie I pitched them — no special effects, no conflict. And then I pitched one where it’s a two-hander with me and the hunter who shot Bambi’s mom. Their answer was ‘We don’t touch Bambi, Ryan.'”

We don’t know if Marvel will ever bring these ideas back – perhaps in a “What if?” format. We also don’t know for sure if there will be a fourth Deadpool movie, but we can be sure that we haven’t seen the last of the big-mouthed mercenary. In the meantime, we recommend Deadpool & Wolverine on Disney+.
