Sony Supercharges PlayStation Portal With Major Update – New Features Bring Smoother Streaming Than Ever

Sony has just rolled out a major system software update for the PlayStation Portal, introducing a slew of new features to enhance the Cloud Streaming (Beta) experience, including game sorting, gameplay capture, queueing, and inactivity alerts.

Continuing its commitment to refining the user experience, Sony has released a significant update for its PlayStation Portal remote player, aimed at improving the way users engage with Cloud Streaming (Beta). Available exclusively to PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers, this cloud service allows players to stream select PS5 games directly from Sony’s servers – even without owning a physical PS5 console.

The new update introduces a number of practical and user-requested improvements:

Game Sorting: Users can now sort the streaming catalog by Recently Added to PS Plus (default), Title, or Release Date, thanks to a new sort icon located at the top-left corner of the catalog screen.

Gameplay Capture: The Create button on the Portal is now active during Cloud Streaming. One tap opens the create menu, holding it takes a screenshot, and a double tap starts/stops video recording. Captures are uploaded automatically to the cloud and can be accessed via the PlayStation App under [Library] > [Captures]. These are stored for 14 days.

Queue System: If the server is full, users can now enter a queue. Estimated wait time is displayed, and the game begins automatically once the slot is available.

Pause Feature: Streaming gameplay pauses automatically when the quick menu is opened, when the device enters rest mode, or when a system error appears. Gameplay resumes when exiting rest mode – unless the session was idle for more than 15 seconds. Online multiplayer may not support this feature.

Inactivity Notification: Players now receive an on-screen warning if the session is about to close after 10 minutes of inactivity.

User Feedback: A new post-session feedback screen allows players to rate their streaming experience and provide insight for further improvements.
