It’s one of the goriest and most disturbing games of 2025, yet it features kittens you can pet—and they’re not just there for show. In Cronos: The New Dawn, Bloober Team turns cats into collectibles with purpose, adding emotional depth to a terrifying world.
Bloober Team is aiming to make waves in 2025 with Cronos: The New Dawn, a terrifying, grotesque horror experience filled with unspeakable monsters and intense atmosphere. Set in a dark, sci-fi universe, the game is designed to chill players to the bone. But what nobody expected was this: there will be kittens.
While the specific reasons will presumably be revealed during the game, players will occasionally stumble upon cats as they journey through Cronos: The New Dawn. And the best part? You can interact with them. “We have cats in the game; you can pet them,” revealed co-director Wojciech Piejko during an interview with GamesRadar+ at GDC 2025. “They function as collectibles.”
But these furry friends aren’t just cosmetic: “They add a kind of gentle comedy and human touch to our character,” said Piejko. The developers were so passionate about the idea that the cats in the game are modeled after real-life pets: “All the cats are based on real cats that belong to our employees. There was something of a cat casting—people were sending pictures and names.” So yes, when the creators of Silent Hill 2: Remake make a new horror game, expect blood, fear… and purring.
One of Cronos’ Directors Is Sick of Games as a Service
Beyond this charming detail, Bloober Team also confirmed that Cronos: The New Dawn will be a fully single-player experience. Why? Because co-director Jacek Zięba is done with the “games as a service” trend: “I think we’re all tired of things as a service. And how do we attract the player, how do we… No! Make a good game,” he vented in a separate interview.
