Even long-time modders are losing interest in Bethesda Game Studios’ newest release — a telling sign about how far Starfield has fallen.
Calling Starfield a bad game would be harsh, but it’s fair to say the game lacks the spark that made past Bethesda titles like Skyrim and Oblivion iconic. The growing excitement for Oblivion Remastered highlights what Starfield is missing: vivid, unique characters and a world filled with bizarre, compelling scenarios.
Since its 2023 launch, Starfield has dropped to a “Mixed” review rating on Steam, with only 58% of user feedback marked positive. Even the most loyal fans are losing interest. The Starfield Community Patch team — modders who assembled more than a year before release to offer unofficial support — is now on the verge of collapsing due to burnout. On the Starfield Modding Discord, Pickysaurus revealed the team is searching for new maintainers. The patch hasn’t seen an update since September because the core team no longer has the time or motivation to keep it going.
Pickysaurus explained that his own reduced involvement is due to adopting a puppy, which limits his gaming time to just a few hours a week. Other volunteers have moved on — frustrated by the lack of replayability, the rise of paid mods, or simply drawn away by other games. The team is now opening the floor to anyone willing to take over. Responsibilities include gathering community-submitted bug fixes and assembling new patch releases, including writing changelogs.
According to Pickysaurus, it’s a demanding job. Without a successor, the Community Patch may be discontinued entirely, and users might be redirected to Arthmoor’s patch — which itself hasn’t been updated since December.
