Funcom says the game’s servers can handle the heavy load, so they don’t think there will be an outbreak at launch.
Dune: Awakening is now open for players to jump in and experience the game, as Funcom continues testing its servers ahead of the new June 10, 2025 release date. The game was initially slated for May 20 but was delayed because “it needed more time in the oven” to implement some changes and fixes based on feedback from closed beta participants.
Stress testing and server preparation
Beta testing has been underway for months, with lucky participants experiencing Funcom pushing the servers to their limits. Still, MMO fans know that “even the biggest titles can falter under overloaded servers”. Earlier this week, just before the beta launch, Funcom addressed these concerns, stating that “this isn’t their first rodeo” and that the team is ready for the expected server load when the game launches.
Beta details and how to join
The beta weekend runs from May 9 through May 12. If you haven’t been invited yet, you can still register via the game’s Steam page. Funcom adds that “adding the game to your wishlist and subscribing to their updates increases your chances”. There will also be a live Twitch broadcast today on Funcom’s channel where “tens of thousands of codes will be distributed”.
The beta grants access to the first 25 hours of the game, covering most of its opening act. A key difference this time is that there is no NDA, meaning “players are free to discuss and stream the game”. The full release is scheduled for June 10 on PC.
