MOVIE NEWS – James Gunn has been making fans wait for months for the official trailer of the upcoming Superman film, but the wait seems to be finally over. A not-so-subtle billboard in New York revealed that the DCU’s next major release is about to get its first full preview later this week.
Warner Bros. put up a massive billboard in the middle of Times Square confirming that the new Superman trailer will debut this Wednesday. James Gunn has repeatedly hinted on social media that the footage has been finished for quite a while. Meanwhile, fans already got an exclusive look at a five-minute clip shown in theaters last month, featuring David Corenswet as the Man of Steel at the Fortress of Solitude. While it’s still unclear when or how the trailer will officially drop online, the promotional reveal already offers a taste of what’s coming.
The official trailer is coming – maybe during the NBA playoffs?
Gunn recently clarified that the teaser released in December 2024 wasn’t the official trailer. DC Studios is expected to unveil the full trailer this Wednesday, likely around their usual 12 p.m. ET slot. If not then, fans might want to tune in to the NBA: the Boston Celtics and the New York Knicks face off at 7 p.m. ET the same evening. Since DC is currently working with Jayson Tatum on Superman-themed promos, many believe the trailer drop might be timed to coincide with the game—one of the most anticipated matchups of the week.
A fresh take on a classic love story
Before fans get the full look at Superman, both James Gunn and David Corenswet have teased the emotional core of the film: the relationship between Clark Kent and Lois Lane, played by Rachel Brosnahan. Inspired by the 1940 romantic comedy His Girl Friday, this version of the DC icon is diving deeper into the couple’s chemistry. “The rhythm, the back-and-forth, the sense of two people in love who are completely equals,” Corenswet said. Still, Gunn made it clear that things won’t be perfect, hinting that Lois is the one with doubts about their future.
“It’s a totally new personal journey for Superman. He’s deeply in love. But Lois isn’t convinced it’s meant to last. She’s the one wrestling with what their future looks like, not Clark. And it really shows how much he needs her in his life.”
This aligns with what Brosnahan previously shared about their dynamic. Despite having been together for three months, the two still haven’t figured out where they stand. “They’ve been together for about three months and are already asking some tough questions. Is this a passing fling or something long-term? Their worldviews are so different, and that friction is what drives the story in a really fun way.”
