Dragon Is Dead: The Dragon Will Soon Be Dead Outside Early Access, Too! [VIDEO]

The side-scrolling roguelite action-platformer from Team Suneat and PM Studios will soon exit early access.

Dragon is Dead has grown hand in hand with its community: player feedback directly shaped everything from balance tweaks and combat feel to major content expansions. During early access, both players and critics praised the game for its depth, responsiveness, and that addictive “just one more run” feel. The 1.0 release marks the culmination of this journey, introducing a final region and boss, a feral new heroine (the Hunter of the Beast), fully customizable difficulty settings, and an overhauled Tempering system that enables high-risk, high-reward builds. Every mechanic, story thread, and feature has been refined by community insight into a final form worthy of the legend of the Dragon Slayer.

The full release of Dragon is Dead is packed with exciting new content and features, including a climactic final chapter. In this chapter, the last members of the Guernian clan are entangled in the schemes of the Circle of the Black Dawn, forcing players to face the ultimate truth behind the dragon’s demise. Beware these fanatics, who worship humanity and stole Guernian’s heart after his death. Led by the ambitious Ashat, they seek to expand their influence and dominate the world. Discover tons of new Legendary gear and a powerful new Mythic tier of equipment, introducing never-before-seen effects to elevate your builds.

A new equipment enhancement system is also being introduced, allowing players to further upgrade existing gear and unlock new options—adding a new layer of customization. A new playable character, the Hunter, joins the fight, bringing a unique set of abilities and combat style. For seasoned adventurers seeking the ultimate test, 16 levels of Nightmare difficulty will become available after finishing the base game. These endgame challenges feature entirely new enemy patterns and mechanics, not just increased numbers.

“Dragon is Dead represents a meaningful return to development for us through our internal subsidiary, Team Suneat. It’s a raw, unfiltered, heartfelt project built by a small but fiercely talented team. What they’ve accomplished—from the precision of the combat to the scale of the systems—is a testament to their vision, resilience, and creative fire. It reflects the kind of bold creativity we’re excited to explore. We’re incredibly proud to share it with players as a new chapter in our in-house development journey,” said Michael Yum, CEO of PM Studios, in the press release.

Dragon is Dead first launched in Early Access on June 7, 2024, and it will leave early access on June 6, 2025—after exactly one year. Currently, no console version of the game is in development.
