The next Resident Evil installment is inching closer to official confirmation, because there’s no way Capcom isn’t already working on it…
According to Dusk Golem, a reliable insider when it comes to Capcom’s development plans, Resident Evil 9 is still set to be revealed in 2025 and released in 2026. He says he’s almost 100% sure of this and doubts the Japanese publisher will delay the project any further.
The main question is whether the reveal will happen this summer—possibly during Summer Game Fest—or later this year at The Game Awards.
It’s almost 100% for sure being revealed this year and releasing next year. Doubt they’ll delay more. The question comes if its being revealed this summer or at TGA for example this year, & if its releasing this fiscal year (ending March 31st, 2026) or next fiscal year late 2026. https://t.co/NO9FOtoZ7Z

When it comes to release timing, there are two possibilities. Based on the launch pattern of recent Resident Evil entries and remakes, Capcom might aim for a release in the current fiscal year (by March 31, 2026). The other scenario is a late 2026 launch—avoiding the summer window when Grand Theft Auto VI is set to dominate.
Dusk Golem has previously said that Resident Evil 9 would be set in a rural town on a Singapore-inspired island. While this rural setting echoes Resident Evil 4 (Spain) and Resident Evil: Village (Romania), a Southeast Asian location could bring some fresh perspective to the franchise.
He also claimed last year that both Resident Evil 9 and Monster Hunter Wilds would be open-world games. Since the latter launched in late February and was indeed open-world, his prediction might hold true for the next Resident Evil as well.
One final question remains: will Resident Evil 9 be released on Nintendo Switch 2?
