The BioShock beta contains some interesting content, and the screenshots have a slightly different feel.
Three images from the game’s beta were posted on the BioShock subreddit. The first shows 6-Lowrent (an early version of Apollo Square), the second shows Fort Frolic, and the third shows Hepheastus. The user who posted the images, WF72, said he is in contact with a source he would like to keep secret for now. He added that he has a lot of developer content for the game, which was released in fall 2007, and he offered these three images as a preview of what’s to come.
The user hopes more screenshots will be coming soon but makes no guarantees. They also mention that the second image had been leaked before, which is why they decided to publish all three. You can see that BioShock looked more like a survival horror game from the late 1990s or early 2000s. The second picture is a bit of a joke: Placeholder Atrocity, with a dog in a suit and hat next to it. The third screenshot was taken in an Unreal track editor, giving a slightly more serious developer background that adds credibility to the leaked images.
This is no coincidence, as BioShock ran on the Unreal Engine 2. BioShock was released for the Xbox 360 and PC in August 2007. A PlayStation 3 port followed in October 2008, and a Mac port came out in October 2009. Finally, the iOS conversion came out in August 2014. The world of Rapture was an excellent gaming experience, and the game’s director, Ken Levine, made a lasting impression. Levine was previously the lead designer for System Shock 2 at Irrational Games. Before that, he developed the initial design and story concepts for Thief: The Dark Project.
Levine’s next game, Judas, will be released for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC.
