Funcom has introduced a last-minute feature to its upcoming MMO just ahead of its launch.
Funcom announced that Dune: Awakening will support private servers right at launch. Although the Norwegian studio initially planned to add the feature later, they have brought it forward in response to overwhelming community demand. Fans can rejoice, though it’s worth noting that the private servers in Dune: Awakening will come with more limitations compared to Conan Exiles due to the MMO-like design of the game.
“When you rent a private server, you essentially rent a server containing one Hagga Basin, just like the official servers. You have the full Hagga Basin map and can do everything you would on an official server. Your private server will belong to a world consisting of other private servers, and you can choose a world for your private server when you rent it from a provider. This means you can take full advantage of Dune: Awakening’s large-scale multiplayer content and mechanics. This includes visiting social hubs and the Deep Desert to meet and play with people from any private server in the same world. Players do not rent or control social hubs or the Deep Desert. They are provided by the server hosting company, which ensures that each private server’s world has them,” wrote Funcom.
Customizable PvP, Taxes, and Sandstorms
Players renting private servers in Dune: Awakening will have access to a few adjustable settings. These include security zones (deciding whether the entire Hagga Basin is PvP-enabled or only specific areas), taxation, and sandstorms—both of which can be disabled. Three server hosting providers are currently available: Gportal, Nitrado, and xREALM.
Dune: Awakening launches officially on PC on June 10, with Early Access beginning June 5 for those who purchase the Deluxe or Ultimate editions.
