MOVIE NEWS – The new How to Train Your Dragon movie is earning rave reviews, but trolls have targeted lead actress Nicole Parker, who plays Astrid in the live-action adaptation, for not being blonde and blue-eyed like the beloved animated character. The actress, however, had her own sharp response to the criticism.
Countless fans of the original animated dragon films expect the live-action version to be a shot-for-shot remake, Parker told The Times. “But I hope everyone finds something to love in the new version, no matter what they expected based on previous films. If someone can’t accept change and hates that things evolve, there’s nothing I can do. So if they don’t like my hair, I let it go in one ear and out the other—otherwise, I’d go nuts.”
The trolls didn’t mention that Astrid gets a much bigger role in this adaptation. Dean DeBlois, the writer-director of every How to Train Your Dragon film, promised that this time, more attention would be given to topics the animated movies never had time to explore. “Astrid never really got the part she deserved,” DeBlois said. “Now we get to know her better—she’s descended from dragon hunters captured by Vikings, and she dreams of leading her tribe. Her big ambitions put her in conflict with Hiccup, making the story even more exciting.”
