Borderlands 4: The Minimap Is Back After Players Revolt!

The Borderlands 4 team has turned criticism into praise after their latest big decision. Players have criticized the lack of a minimap in Borderlands 4, but Randy Pitchford has announced that the iconic mechanic will be returning.

The Borderlands franchise revolutionized the looter shooter genre in 2009, not only for its zany narrative, but also for its great gameplay, chaotic maps, and enemies. Throughout the last Borderlands games, there was one element that remained with us but wasn’t given much attention: the minimap. This enemy radar helped us navigate the environments and know how many enemies were nearby. However, Borderlands 4 wasn’t originally going to include it.

A few days ago, Borderlands 4 director Randy Pitchford responded to concerns about the lack of a minimap, stating that the vastness of the planet Kairos made implementing this radar difficult. Instead, the looter-shooter will rely on a compass to guide the action, although there are other in-game resources that can help us in Borderlands 4, such as a small guide robot or an AI-controlled arrow that helps us navigate in short spaces by projecting holographic paths.

The Borderlands 4 minimap is a reality

However, a few hours ago, Pitchford delighted fans by confirming that Borderlands 4 will finally feature a minimap. In a lengthy thread, the Gearbox boss confirmed that the feature was added after listening to feedback from veteran players and some journalists (he mentions 15% of those who played the game). After realizing that players loved the game, they realized that the complaints about the lack of a minimap were legitimate.

In this way, the team was able to add a sort of combat radar at the last minute thanks to “some developers getting together and finding some time in their schedules.” Pitchford mentions creative director Graeme Timmons and his team, who have made the combat minimap a reality in Borderlands 4. The best news is that it is already being tested and will be released on September 12, although it should be noted that the option is disabled by default and will have to be enabled in settings.

In gaming-related news, the Borderlands 4 price controversy has now been resolved. The looter shooter will cost €79.99 on Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and €69.99 on PC, while the Switch 2 version is a mystery to this day. In any case, the most complete version of Borderlands 4 which includes 4 DLC content and 2 story expansions will cost €130. Of course, Pitchford wants you to know that “this is just the beginning”, so we have Borderlands 4 for a while, especially when the endgame arrives.
