This Free Game Pulled 6,000 Players on Steam—But Most Quit After 15 Minutes Just for the Reward!

It’s free and has already been tried by 6,000 players on Steam. However, most didn’t stick around for more than 15 minutes, as they were only after the reward.

On average, between 20 and 30 new games launch on Steam every day. That’s an enormous amount, and not all manage to survive or stand out—but Terminull Brigade didn’t have that problem. Published by Level Infinite (of Delta Force fame), this free-to-play shooter with roguelike mechanics debuted with over 6,000 concurrent players at its peak, though the real story behind those numbers goes well beyond a genuine interest in the game itself.

You might not know Terminull Brigade. It’s a third-person shooter offering battles and exploration in futuristic worlds, solo or in co-op. With a hero system reminiscent of Overwatch and roguelike-style upgrades, it aims for fast-paced, free-to-play action. The game launched on July 30, 2025, and peaked at 6,219 concurrent players on August 2.

Most Players Logged In for Discord Rewards

However, most players didn’t come for the gameplay, but for a Discord-linked promotion that offered 700 orbs for just 15 minutes of playtime with the app open. Those orbs could be redeemed for Discord-exclusive rewards like badges or Nitro Credits, so it’s no surprise that many weren’t really interested in the game itself. “I installed the game just to see the EULA tab while I was sleeping and earned the 700 Discord orbs. I didn’t play it at all.” wrote one player on Steam. “Thanks for the Discord orbs. I uninstalled it afterward. Not a single hour of gameplay, I didn’t even accept the EULA.” added another.

When it comes to overall reception, there’s no shortage of criticism about the game’s monetization, which some find excessive: characters and weapons are locked behind steep paywalls, disappointing those hoping for broader access. Still, some players defend the game, praising its fun factor, hero variety, and potential for co-op play—provided optimization and the payment system are improved.

Ultimately, Terminull Brigade has managed to stand out in a crowded market, but its long-term future depends on the developers’ ability to turn this early buzz into a rewarding, fair gameplay experience that keeps players around after the promotions end.
