Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake: Still in Development

It’s another year and another confirmation from the developers that the remake announced several years ago is in the works. However, this is starting to become ridiculous.

The Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake is officially still in development, as confirmed by Tim Willits, CCO of Saber Interactive, in a new interview with IGN. This statement offers some relief to fans who have wondered for years if the project had been quietly canceled. Unfortunately, that’s where the good news ends. Willits did not provide any additional information about the remake, stating that confirming the development status is all he can reveal and that further details will remain under wraps.

Originally announced for PlayStation 5 and PC in 2021, the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake has not received any concrete updates since the reveal trailer, which did not show any gameplay. After the announcement, rumors circulated that development was not going smoothly, which led to an indefinite delay and the removal of the original developer, Aspyr. However, at the end of 2023, rumors circulated suggesting that work on the KotOR remake had halted altogether. Fortunately, this did not turn out to be true.

Although the game is still in development, the lack of information suggests that we will have to wait a while longer to learn more about it and how it will modernize the original real-time, pausable combat system, which was once rumored to include two combat modes. Since its spiritual successor, Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, is still far off, RPG fans will have to be patient as well. Hopefully, the wait will be worth it for both projects.

But this has become a running joke: Once a year, we hear that the remake is still in development.
