Ariana Grande Gets Wired to a Lie Detector in Focker In-Law

MOVIE NEWS – In the newest entry in the Meet the Parents franchise, Focker In-Law, the young woman named in the title is played by Ariana Grande, who, after Wicked, has now been able to try herself in territory that is rather different for her. The film’s first teaser has just arrived, and it shows her character strapped to one of the series’ unavoidable props: the lie detector. In the 15-second clip, Robert De Niro’s character, former CIA agent Jack Byrnes, can be seen questioning Olivia Jones, played by Grande, with intense suspicion.

The story takes place 15 years after the events of Little Fockers, when a fresh wave of trouble lands on our heroes. In the earlier films, Ben Stiller’s Greg Focker was the vulnerable future son-in-law, then son-in-law, desperate to win over his wife’s father at any cost. By now, however, he has joined the ranks of the seasoned parents himself. Stiller returns as Greg, and he briefly appears in the teaser as well. Referring to the lie detector, he notes: the old machine.

Although the details of the plot are still being kept under wraps, one thing we do know is that Grande’s character, Olivia, is the fiancée of Greg and Pam’s son, Henry Focker. She is a strong-willed presence whose arrival thoroughly stirs up the waters inside the Byrnes-Focker clan, because she proves to be a serious force to reckon with for the family’s former CIA patriarch.

Focker In-Law brings back almost the entire old gang. Alongside Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller, we will once again see Teri Polo as Pam, Blythe Danner as Dina, and Owen Wilson as the still thoroughly eccentric Kevin. The film was directed by John Hamburg, who had already proven himself as the screenwriter of the original trilogy.
