Roger Clark worked on Red Dead Redemption 2 for five years, but because of Rockstar‘s strict secrecy, he could not reveal anything about the project for a very long time. The situation became so strange that his friends eventually started to think he did not really have a job and had simply made the whole thing up.
Today, major video games often take several years to develop, and the professionals involved in these productions are usually forbidden from sharing details about what they are doing inside a studio. That is especially true at companies such as Rockstar, where secrecy is taken extremely seriously. Roger Clark, the actor who played Arthur Morgan in Red Dead Redemption 2, also could not talk about his collaboration with the creators of the Grand Theft Auto series. He had to keep the secret for so long that his friends eventually began to doubt him.
Clark recalled the story during a talk focused on his work on Red Dead Redemption 2. An excerpt from that conversation, specifically the part dealing with this anecdote, was previously published on the B-Sure Gaming YouTube channel. “I worked on Red Dead 2 for five years. And when I signed the contract, I told my friends, ‘Oh, I’ve secured a job on a really cool video game. I can’t tell you about it.’ And they replied, ‘Oh, that’s great.’”
Over time, however, the situation became increasingly absurd. “Then a year went by, then two, and they asked me, ‘Are you still working on that video game you can’t talk about?’ I said yes. And they replied, ‘You know, Roger, it’s okay if you can’t find a job. You don’t have to make up lies to justify yourself.’ And I was like, ‘No, I’m serious! I’m working on a video game!’” Eventually, of course, Clark revealed that his secret project was none other than the lead role in Red Dead Redemption 2, a major milestone in his career.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Became One Of The Best Games In History
Since then, thousands of players have praised Clark’s performance in Rockstar‘s western, and for good reason. Arthur Morgan became one of the strongest protagonists in modern video game storytelling, made memorable not only by the writing, but also by Clark’s restrained and powerful performance. Red Dead Redemption 2 remains one of the most widely discussed open-world games ever made, and many players still rank it among the greatest games of all time.
Its popularity has not faded years after release. In 2025, the game recorded a peak of almost 100,000 concurrent players on Steam, proving that more than five years after launch, it can still draw massive audiences back into its world. Red Dead Redemption 2‘s open world, story, and characters continue to have a force that very few modern games can match.
