The developer of Alien: Rogue Incursion, VR-focused studio Survios, has suffered significant layoffs, and affected employees say the studio may soon close permanently.
Weeks go by, and the news about layoffs and studio closures keeps coming, with Survios developers now caught in this grim wave. The company, which specializes in VR experiences and is responsible for Alien: Rogue Incursion, has suffered major cutbacks and appears to be nearing the end of its road in the video game industry. According to employees affected by the process, the company will soon shut its doors for good.
As initially reported by GameDeveloper, several members of Survios announced their abrupt dismissal through their LinkedIn profiles. The move seems to go beyond simply letting go of some staff, as combat designer Dylan Ralston indicated in his post that the studio is also planning an imminent closure. “I was informed today that Survios, as it currently stands, will be virtually shut down and all team members responsible for development will be laid off, myself included”, he wrote on the social network.
Ralston is not the only person to echo the news about Survios’ decision. Senior designer Alissa Smith and senior sound technical designer Tim Schumann also announced on their respective LinkedIn profiles that they had been laid off from the company. Schumann’s post suggests that the news was not exactly a surprise, as he had already seen Survios’ collapse coming: “Unfortunately, today is the day I have to post about losing my job in the video game industry. It’s a sad day, and I wish the best to everyone who worked at Survios”, he wrote. “As for me, I saw this coming a while ago. I’ll be taking some time to reassess my position in the video game industry. Games are still my first passion and hobby, but I’d be lying if I said I haven’t reevaluated my place in this industry over the past few years. I’ll most likely be back in a couple of months, either looking for a job or starting something of my own, but for now, I’m looking forward to enjoying a well-deserved break.”
Alien: Rogue Incursion Arrived On Nintendo Switch 2 A Few Days Ago
The strangest part of all is that Survios was not just sitting around waiting for the end. Although Alien: Rogue Incursion first launched in late 2024 on PlayStation 5 and PC, the developers continued working on the game, releasing ports to bring it to more platforms. Its VR nature did not allow it to expand in the same way as other titles, but Survios released it for the Quest 3 headset in 2025 and also brought the Alien experience to Nintendo Switch 2 this year. In fact, the hybrid console version is very recent, having arrived on the eShop on April 21. However, it seems this will be the company’s final project.
