Tomb Raider: Legacy Of Atlantis: Maybe We Won’t Have To Wait That Long After All?

The latest remake of the first Tomb Raider game reportedly will not slip into 2027. Since Anniversary was essentially a remake too, Lara Croft’s first adventure may receive another full reimagining.

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis marks the long-awaited return of the series to PC and consoles, but last month it seemed that the remake of the very first entry in the franchise would take longer than expected and would not see the light of day until 2027 (we also reported on this in the news). According to a LinkedIn post from developer Electric Square discovered by Tomb Raider Chronicles, however, that will not be the case, as the game is still planned for release in 2026.

“Electric Square is honored to have supported Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog on their upcoming reimagination of Lara Croft’s global debut in Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis. Some legends are destined to be retold – experience the pinnacle of adventure with Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, a stunning reimagining of Lara Croft’s 1996, genre-defining game, with jaw-dropping visuals powered by Unreal Engine 5, modern gameplay, and new surprises that honor the spirit of the original. Coming in 2026,” the LinkedIn post says.

Considering that developer Crystal Dynamics has gone through several rounds of layoffs (the latest one took place two months ago, and we also wrote about it), it would not be surprising if the studio had difficulty developing Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and Catalyst, the next true mainline entry in the series, at the same time. Still, in the absence of an officially confirmed release date, it remains unclear whether the remake will really debut this year and how it will stay away from Grand Theft Auto VI, which is currently planned to launch on November 19 – something every other publisher is also trying to do.

Could Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis arrive in late summer or early autumn if it really sticks to the 2026 release window? With the June showcases approaching, we probably will not have to wait much longer for an answer. Still, it is better to be cautious…
