Protesters “Raid” EA Headquarters To Oppose Saudi Arabia-Led Acquisition

A small group from Players Alliance HQ staged a protest at Electronic Arts headquarters against the Saudi Arabia-led takeover of the company, attempting to deliver a petition with more than 70,000 signatures to EA leadership. The group described the action as a “raid” in the MMO sense: players teaming up to confront a powerful boss. The protest took place in front of the Madden field at EA’s campus, but security guards prevented the group from entering the building to deliver the petition directly.

A small group of protesters appeared at Electronic Arts headquarters to demonstrate against the Saudi Arabia-led takeover of the company. Organized by Players Alliance HQ, the action was described by participants as a “raid,” not in a literal sense, but in the MMO sense of players banding together to face a powerful boss. The protesters gathered in front of the Madden field at the center of EA’s campus and then attempted to present company leadership with a petition signed by more than 70,000 people.

The delivery failed. The protest itself went ahead without any major incident, aside from one obstacle: EA placed metal barricades around the Madden field ahead of the demonstration, along with a small sign saying the field was closed for a “private function.” Players Alliance said it had not been in contact with EA about the matter, but believes the barricades were set up specifically to keep protesters off the field.

The demonstration therefore took place directly in front of the barricades. According to PC Gamer, the livestream showed a small turnout, with roughly a dozen people involved, but the protest was enthusiastic and focused. The participants were not only opposing the specific takeover, but also pushing back against what they see as a broader pattern of private equity firms and corporate executives reshaping the games industry at consumers’ expense.

Zefrine, a Twitch streamer and Players Alliance HQ member, said in a statement: “Gamers raided EA’s HQ because we’re no longer willing to sit back while private equity firms and corporate executives turn gaming into another industry built on ripping off consumers. EA placed barricades around the Madden field precisely because the company is afraid of the growing public pressure against this buyout while regulators are still deciding whether to approve the deal.”

The group argues that the pressure is already working. Zefrine added: “The pressure is working, and over 70,000 gamers stand with the Players Alliance to fight back against corporate greed and finally hold these corporations to account.” The protesters’ goal was to hand those signatures directly to EA leadership.

EA did not allow the protesters to deliver the petition in person. A Players Alliance representative said security refused to grant them access to the building, but said he would take the petition and “give it to the right people.” The action therefore remained a visible symbolic protest: players showed up at EA’s headquarters, but the direct handoff of the petition stopped at the company’s front line of security.
