Square Enix’s game has surpassed Cyberpunk 2077 and is set to be released on multiple consoles in the coming days.

The second installment in the series, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, is set to release on June 3 for the Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series. It is already poised to break records on Nintendo’s current-gen console in terms of file size, making games like Cyberpunk 2077 Special Edition seem tiny by comparison. According to the Japanese My Nintendo Store page, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be 102 GB.

While the final file size may differ – the official European Nintendo website lists 91.5 GB, which may not account for a potential day-one update – the second installment of the remake trilogy is poised to be the largest Nintendo Switch 2 game to date. It will surpass Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade (90.4 GB), Split Fiction (71 GB), and Cyberpunk 2077 Special Edition (60 GB). However, size isn’t everything.

Unlike with Cyberpunk 2077 Special Edition, those who want to buy Final Fantasy VII Rebirth for the Nintendo Switch 2 must download the full game. For their open-world RPG, CDPR did everything possible to ensure the full game would be available on the cartridge. The second installment of the remake trilogy, however, like its predecessor (which made headlines last month for running surprisingly well on a modified Nintendo Switch), will be released in stores as a game key card. Therefore, downloading the full game is required to play.

Next week’s release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on the Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series is likely not the only event in the series. The third installment of the Final Fantasy VII remake is expected to be announced at upcoming events. Additionally, rumors suggest that Tifa will join the roster in the fourth season of Street Fighter 6. Therefore, Square Enix fans have plenty of exciting news to look forward to.
