Call of Duty: Are Two Older Games Getting a Minor Makeover?

These are likely not remasters, but it seems Microsoft has something planned for the franchise’s older games.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has finally been announced, confirming that the series is leaving the previous console generation behind. Both Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare 4 are bidding farewell to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The former was also recently in the news. Two new ratings from the South Korean game rating board have players anticipating another major announcement, though it might not be what they expect. Due to the ratings for Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, players are wondering if this signals new remastered versions of these two games.

What makes this speculation different – beyond the fact that the recently submitted rating is more substantial than a random tweet – is that it came shortly after rumors circulated about the return of older Call of Duty titles. Last month, PCGamer pointed out that several older games in the series would be joining Xbox Game Pass after learning that new games in the series would no longer be added to the service immediately.

It’s important to note that the site doesn’t mention these are remastered versions. However, the first two Black Ops games are more than ten years old. They might not undergo a full-scale remastering like Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2 did, but it’s possible they’ll be slightly overhauled before joining the Game Pass lineup (if that is indeed the plan). Of course, it’s worth noting that the word “remastered” doesn’t appear in the titles of any of the new listings. It’s possible that they’ve just done some work to make both games look as good as possible on the current console generation.

At the same time, it’s possible that these points aren’t related. However, it is also Summer Game Fest season. This is the time of year when something always leaks a little early, only to disappear from the news until it is announced at one of the upcoming presentations.
