An Authentic Splinter Cell Remake, and a Risk-Taking Far Cry 7?

Two completely opposite rumors are circulating about two upcoming Ubisoft games, which says a lot about the strange state of the French publisher.

Rogue, who has previously shared Ubisoft-related information several times, has revealed fresh details about two long-awaited projects: Splinter Cell Remake and Far Cry 7. The reports should, of course, be treated as rumors, but several points line up with earlier leaks.

For Splinter Cell Remake, the picture sounds especially promising for fans of Sam Fisher’s classic adventures. According to Rogue, Ubisoft is still building a linear, mission-based stealth game powered by the Snowdrop engine.

The remake reportedly emphasizes non-lethal solutions, visibility systems, dynamic lighting, destructible environments, and classic Splinter Cell tools.

The list includes sticky cameras, gas grenades, manual alarm systems, pipe sliding, and zip lines. If this is indeed how the game turns out, Ubisoft is not making an open-world reboot, but trying to preserve the series’ original identity.

The project is reportedly still alive despite delays, layoffs, and leadership turmoil around Ubisoft Toronto. Its release window remains unclear, however. Earlier rumors mentioned 2026 to 2027, while Rogue now places launch between the second and fourth quarters of 2027.

The insider also added that the project is in a fragile state. That does not mean it is certainly in trouble, but given Ubisoft’s current position, there is little reason to be overly confident.

Far Cry 7, by contrast, may take a much riskier direction. The rumor claims Ubisoft is building a PvE/PvEvP rescue, survival, and extraction loop into the game, with looting, weapon durability, a safehouse, wild animals, and an enemy faction called the Sons of Truth.

The 72-hour time limit and the objective of rescuing up to six family members also appear again in the leak. This matches earlier reports that Ubisoft has been testing a significant structural overhaul for the series rather than simply repeating the open-world formula of Far Cry 6.

According to Rogue, the campaign is still part of the game, but it is not yet clear whether the PvE/PvEvP system will appear as a separate mode or be integrated into the main story in some form.

The two directions are almost opposites. Splinter Cell Remake sounds conservative and identity-preserving, while Far Cry 7 may move in an experimental direction that will not necessarily please fans.

Ubisoft badly needs both games to succeed. After several missteps in recent years, the publisher cannot afford another unfinished or misunderstood AAA project, so it may prefer to wait until these titles are truly ready.
