A fresh wave of GTA VI leaks is now accompanied by malware-laced fake “playable builds.” Take-Two, meanwhile, is using the courts to obtain identifying information tied to Microsoft and Discord accounts allegedly connected to Cyberleek.

Previously unseen GTA VI clips and images have once again spread across social media over the past few days, while numerous accounts have tried to speak in the leakers’ name. The actual source reportedly does not communicate through X or public forums, leaving plenty of room for impersonators and outright scammers.

The most dangerous scheme promises a downloadable, playable PC build of GTA VI, but the executable may instead harvest banking credentials, personal information, and other sensitive data. NordVPN chief technology officer Marijus Briedis says fake “leaked content” thrives on players’ curiosity, so even a convincing download link shared through Discord, Reddit, or an unfamiliar website should be treated as malicious.

Take-Two has also gone to federal court and filed requests intended to compel Microsoft and Discord to hand over account records connected to the leaks. The publisher says the information would be used solely to protect its rights and identify the alleged infringing party or parties.

The requested records include profile IDs, registration and last-login email addresses, phone numbers, linked services, device identifiers, and OneDrive content referring to GTA VI, Rockstar, or Cyberleek. Discord has also been asked for records concerning members and communications on specified servers, with both companies facing a September 4 deadline.

Cyberleek has been using the viral clips to promote a memecoin and has tied the release of further footage to the currency’s value. The group claims to be protesting digital pre-orders, separate charges for DLC content already present in a game, and single-player titles becoming unusable after server shutdowns, although the people behind the operation have yet to be identified.
