Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons is being designed as an accessible action adventure even for players who know nothing about D&D. Invoke Studios is building Kaatri’s story so newcomers can discover the dark realm of Ravenloft alongside her.
Shown at Gamescom 2026, Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons is a cinematic third-person action game, but its developers do not expect players to understand more than fifty years of tabletop lore. Creative director Jeffrey Hattem told GamesRadar+ that the experience is deliberately aimed at people who may never have played tabletop D&D.
We’re designing a game that targets players who may never have played Dungeons & Dragons.
Protagonist Kaatri is herself a stranger in an unfamiliar land, allowing players to learn the rules of the world at the same pace she does. That creates a natural entry point for newcomers, while longtime D&D fans can still expect hidden references, secrets, and recognizable pieces of lore.
The game is not set in the Forgotten Realms familiar from Baldur’s Gate 3. Instead, it explores Ravenloft’s Domain of Dread, specifically the realm of Darkon. Invoke Studios is working closely with Wizards of the Coast and the tabletop team, respecting established material while adding new stories and original spells.
The goal is therefore not to make a simple licensed adaptation, but a standalone production that works both as an approachable action game and as a new contribution to the Dungeons & Dragons canon. Its combat combines forbidden magic with visceral melee attacks.
Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons is scheduled to launch in 2027 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. A specific release date has not yet been announced.
