Assassin’s Creed’s Creator’s New Game Is Removing AI-Generated Content! [VIDEO]

In response to widespread criticism, elements created using generative artificial intelligence will be removed from 1666: Amsterdam.

Patrice Désilets, the creator of Assassin’s Creed, most recently worked on 1666: Amsterdam at Panache Games. 1666: Amsterdam is currently available via early access, but the game’s release has been overshadowed by controversy surrounding generative AI. Following widespread criticism, Désilets promised to avoid using this technology in the future.

1666: Amsterdam, an action-adventure game from the creator of Assassin’s Creed, will drop elements created by generative AI following criticism from fans and industry observers. According to GamesRadar, Désilets confirmed that the AI-generated elements in 1666: Amsterdam will be replaced following the strong backlash against their use. The developer explained that AI was primarily used in the early stages of the game’s development. He explained that it was used during the preparatory phase. However, due to the backlash, the team will avoid using AI in the future.

Désilets said they used AI during the process, mainly at the beginning, but they won’t use it in the future. The fan reaction isn’t too surprising, considering many people weren’t happy when they discovered AI-generated elements in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and other games. As previously mentioned, many fans still oppose generative AI. The fact that impressive games like Grand Theft Auto VI were developed entirely without AI doesn’t help the situation. Admittedly, however, it is being criticized for its user interface, which was discussed earlier today.

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) will continue to spark heated debate for a long time. It’s easy to go too far in the opposite direction. For example, when the voice acting is AI-generated, it can ruin the experience. It’s an even bigger problem when it’s visible in the graphics (e.g., a character has four or six fingers).
