Xbox has spent years bringing first-party games to PlayStation, yet nobody will give a clear answer about The Elder Scrolls VI. Evasive comments from Asha Sharma and Todd Howard have reignited speculation about the Bethesda RPG’s platforms.
Microsoft has made several former exclusives available on rival consoles, but it has also started emphasizing the importance of content tied to its own ecosystem again. According to Asha Sharma, every platform needs some exclusive experiences, and the company is following that path with Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution.
When a BBC journalist specifically asked about The Elder Scrolls VI, Sharma did not say whether the game would launch on PlayStation. She simply smiled and called it a “beautiful game” before referring to the need to balance exclusivity with a healthy business.
“Every platform needs some exclusive experiences and content. We are doing that with Gears and Clockwork, while making sure the business remains healthy.”
Todd Howard was similarly cautious a few weeks earlier. The Bethesda chief said it was still too early to discuss the exact platforms for The Elder Scrolls VI and Fallout 5.
During the FTC trial surrounding Microsoft’s Activision Blizzard acquisition, the company previously acknowledged that the fantasy RPG could launch only on Xbox and PC. Such a decision could cost Microsoft substantial PlayStation revenue in the short term, but it could also give the Xbox Series and Project Helix ecosystem a major exclusive attraction.
