Despite major changes at Microsoft this year, the company’s plans for the Playground Games title have not been affected.

Microsoft has confirmed that Forza Horizon 6 will be released on the PlayStation 5 later this year. When the game was first announced last year, Xbox confirmed that it would be available on Xbox Series and PC at launch, with the PlayStation 5 version to follow. However, since then, Xbox has undergone significant changes in leadership and strategy. It abandoned its plan to release all future games on multiple platforms and now determines exclusivity on a game-by-game basis.

Because of this change in strategy, some feared that the PlayStation 5 version of Forza Horizon 6 would be canceled or delayed. However, Xbox had previously committed to ensuring that all previously announced multiplatform releases would proceed as planned. This ultimately won’t be the case for Gears of War: E-Day, even though it was also announced for the PlayStation 5. Now, as developer Playground Games prepares the game’s next major update, the company has confirmed once again that the game will be released on PlayStation 5 consoles before the end of the year.

“If you’re planning your trip to Discover Japan on PlayStation 5, stay tuned. Forza Horizon 6 will release on PlayStation 5 later this year. You can add the game to your wish list on the PlayStation Store to be notified of its availability,” reads a statement on the game’s official website.

The game’s next major update, which is themed around the British automotive industry, will be released on Thursday, September 10. It will introduce a new permanent race mode called Drift Attack. This mode is similar to Drift Zones, but it features special points on the track where players can earn extra points by drifting. The release of Forza Horizon 6 on the PlayStation 5 is a significant milestone for Microsoft. Forza Horizon 5 reportedly sold over 5 million copies on the Sony console alone, more than four years after its original Xbox release.
