Could the PlayStation 5 Pro Hit Stores Sooner Than Expected? [VIDEO]

Sony is the second company, along with Nintendo, that just looks stupid by having hardware coming out soon that they don’t really want to talk about officially.

A journalist, Lorenzo Fazio, who works for multiplayer.it, said on Twitch that one of the developers he spoke to at Gamescom confirmed that the release of the PlayStation 5 Pro, the half-generation update, is not that far away. He didn’t want to reveal the name of the person (understandably, as he could lose his job if he gave too many details…), but he did let slip that the PlayStation 5 Pro is on its way.

The anonymous developer had planned to release the game by the end of the year, but they’ve slowed down development a bit because of the PlayStation 5 Pro. The wording isn’t entirely clear, as it’s hard to tell from the person’s words whether they’ve delayed the release to coincide with the launch of the more powerful console, or to make sure their game is NOT in stores at that time. In any case, he said that the release date would be somewhere between late 2024 and early 2025.

According to the top commenter on Reddit, Multiplayer is a pretty decadent magazine now, so it’s not really worth believing what Fazio reported. Another commenter agrees: the console is likely to be unveiled in 2-3 weeks, which would confirm the earlier PlayStation Showcase rumors from September. Sony could unveil the console here and then take it to the Tokyo Game Show to show off what the hardware can do with Death Stranding 2, for example. (Hideo Kojima’s game has already been officially announced by Sony as being part of the event…)

The PlayStation 5 Pro isn’t official yet, but it’s about the same situation as the unofficially named Nintendo Switch 2. Lots of rumors, but no official unveiling yet. Sony will do that soon…
