We’ve long suspected that one of them was coming, and the other has long been rumored to be getting a PC port…

It was Rockstar Games that leaked the news that Grand Theft Auto VI and Red Dead Redemption are coming to PC. As for the latter, we heard back in May that it would be coming to PC alongside PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch, but in the end the PC version hasn’t been released until today. As for Rockstar’s games, trusted insider Tez2 wrote on Twitter that Rockstar left a metadata file in last week’s Grand Theft Auto V update that revealed the company’s plans.

In addition to the Grand Theft Auto V Gen9 folder, the update also includes an Americas folder and a Red Dead Redemption folder. The former is the codename for GTA VI. Of course, Rockstar was quick to respond by removing the suspiciously left-in files from the Rockstar Games Launcher version of the update, but perhaps the necessary changes have not yet been made on Steam. A link to SteamDB was also shared by Tez2, which could be a PC port of Red Dead Redemption…

A leftover metadata file indicates Rockstar has been working on a Gen9 version of #GTAV for PC since earlier this year.

The addition of BattlEye could be seen as preparations for the arrival of the Gen9 version on PC.

But what is included in the Grand Theft Auto V update? Well, the game got BattlEye support, which can be turned off from the launcher. It’s a third-party anti-cheat software that many other games use (APB Reloaded, ARK, Arma, Battalion 1944, Conan Exiles, DayZ, Destiny 2, Escape from Tarkov, Fortnite, Insurgency, Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, PlanetSide 2, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, PUBG: Battlegrounds, Skull and Bones, The Crew, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, Watch Dogs: Legion, XDefiant).

Going back to the metadata file, the PC version may also get the long-awaited ray tracing. The technology is already available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series (shadows and reflections are like that), and it might finally make it to PC users.
