Performance issues with Final Fantasy 16 on consoles have been linked to PlayStation 5’s latest system update. Square Enix is currently investigating the situation alongside Sony.
Since the release of the PS5 update last week, players have reported experiencing crashes and graphical glitches while playing Final Fantasy 16.
Square Enix has officially acknowledged the issues and confirmed it is working with Sony to resolve them.
“Following the recent PlayStation 5 system update, there have been reports of game crashes and graphical anomalies,” Square Enix said in a statement on the game’s official X account.
“We are actively working with Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) to investigate the matter and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Please stay tuned for further updates.”
Final Fantasy 16 launched on PS5 in June 2023, though its sales have not met Square Enix’s expectations.
The game’s PC version was released earlier this week, and the director has expressed that future entries in the series could be released simultaneously on both PC and consoles.
The recent PS5 system update introduced several new features, including the Welcome Hub and Party Share.
