Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2 Sequel in the Works? Great News for Warhammer Fans!

Warhammer 40K fans have something to be excited about. The Space Marine 2 director is already working on new stories, possibly for a DLC or even a sequel. Dmitry Grigorenko, the director of the game, has pitched these ideas to Saber Interactive for approval.

There’s not much to say about Space Marine 2 except for its tremendous success. Saber Interactive’s Warhammer 40K game, a sequel to Relic’s 2011 release, has garnered 81% positive reviews on Steam and impressive player numbers. However, this shooter is far from finished, as the American studio plans not only to enhance the game with patches but also to expand it with DLCs and potentially even a sequel.

In an interview with IGN, Tim Willits, the studio’s COO, mentioned that Dmitry Grigorenko has already pitched some story ideas that could be included in future expansions or a third game. While these ideas are still in the early stages, Willits made it clear that the team is excited about the possibilities. “We’re literally catching our breath,” he said, referring to the intense effort to complete Space Marine 2.

According to Willits, the team needs some time to reflect, but the game’s success has been a key driver for the future of the franchise. Additionally, the story of Space Marine 2 is ripe for expansion through DLCs or additional content, beyond the already confirmed updates for Operations Mode and PvP, which promise a bright future ahead.

Indeed, Space Marine 2’s success has marked a turning point for Saber Interactive, and Willits is confident that they will continue delivering content for Warhammer fans, whether through expansions or a sequel, provided that Games Workshop allows it. “I can confidently say we won’t disappoint our Warhammer fans in the future. It’s too big of a success to ignore!” he declared, highlighting the studio’s commitment to the Warhammer 40,000 universe.

Tremendous success on Xbox as well

Space Marine 2 has also been a smash hit on Xbox Series X|S, becoming the most popular Warhammer 40K game on the platform. After a decade-long wait since the first installment, the game has exceeded expectations, with over 33,755 players unlocking achievements in its first week, doubling the numbers of previous titles like Darktide. Early Access and strong demand from fans cemented its success, making this sequel one of the most significant launches in Warhammer 40K history.
