More and more signs suggest that Nintendo is not particularly concerned about which games launch close to its own releases. The remake could arrive only one week before Grand Theft Auto VI.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake, which may eventually be followed by a remake of Twilight Princess, was officially announced during last month’s Nintendo Direct after years of rumors, surprising almost no one. However, the short trailer was not enough to provide a clear idea of how the Nintendo Switch 2 game will play when it launches later this year. We may soon receive a more substantial look, as the highly anticipated remake was recently rated by the ESRB.
Although the usual rating summary has not yet been published, Nintendo updated the page for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake with an ESRB E10+ rating. The classification itself is hardly surprising considering the original game, but the fact that the remake has already been rated suggests that a more detailed presentation could take place at Gamescom, where Nintendo is returning as an official partner, or at the Tokyo Game Show in September.

The ESRB rating is also a strong indication that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake will not be delayed until 2027. However, with release calendars packed throughout September and October, Nintendo may stick to its traditional November window for its biggest fall title. Nintendo could therefore become the only major publisher to compete directly with Grand Theft Auto VI, which launches on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series. Nintendo’s UK subsidiary listed the Kirby Air Riders Amiibo with a November 11 release date before immediately removing the information. Since the company traditionally schedules Amiibo launches to coincide with major game releases, this strongly suggests that the remake could indeed arrive on November 11, approximately one week before Grand Theft Auto VI.
Can a remake of a title widely regarded as one of the greatest games ever made compete on equal terms with the most anticipated game of this generation, if not of all time? Their potential release dates could create a genuinely direct confrontation.
