Rumors have been circulating for a while now about a remake of one of the most popular entries in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, the 2013 Black Flag. These rumors are likely true, as Ubisoft confirmed earlier this summer that several remakes are currently in development. Previously, it was thought that we would have to wait a long time for the release, but according to a report from Insider Gaming, we might be seeing the sails on the horizon sooner than expected.

Insider Gaming recently obtained some internal documentation from Ubisoft, though under the condition that they would not share these documents publicly. However, based on this information, it appears Ubisoft is planning to accelerate the release schedule for its Assassin’s Creed games: over the next five years, they plan to launch ten games, each offering different lengths and experiences. This includes the mobile game Jade, which is expected to release in the second half of 2025.

The most interesting tidbit, however, is that the Black Flag remake (currently under the working title “Obsidian”) was planned for release in November 2025. Even if this timeline doesn’t hold, the fact that Ubisoft is deep into development on this pirate-themed game is clear. The remake was reportedly intended to launch alongside the multiplayer AC game codenamed Invictus.

However, it seems that Assassin’s Creed Shadows may have thrown a wrench into the original plans. According to Insider Gaming, series producer Marc-Alexis Côté sent out an internal email stating that Shadows’ recently announced delay “will impact the entire Assassin’s Creed schedule,” which means we might be waiting longer for the Black Flag remake as well.
