The Japanese company may not wait long to reveal the successor to the Switch, which for lack of a better name, we’ll call the Switch 2…
The Nintendo Switch 2 is starting to look like a Yeti. Everyone is talking about it, but no one has seen it yet. But that could change soon, and we don’t just have rumors to report. Will it have backwards compatibility? It would make sense, as it is one of the best-selling platforms, and it would be a huge business mistake not to support Switch games on its successor.
The Switch is already a pretty old platform, having been released in March 2017, so it’s now been over seven and a half years since the console launched. Because of this, time has really passed, and one theory is that Nintendo will soon introduce a successor. This theory is linked to a Switch-exclusive game, Mario & Luigi: Brothership. In the video, Mario successfully lands and Luigi falls on his face. The comment next to it says that it’s a 10/10 landing. And fans think that October 10th is the day the Switch 2 will be unveiled.

It’s worth drawing a parallel with the Switch’s past. The platform was announced by Nintendo in October, but it was officially launched on October 20, 2016, not the tenth. That day falls on a Sunday this year, and the tenth falls on a Thursday, so there may be a reason why the announcement could actually happen on that day. If that’s the case, then there’s a question mark over when the Switch 2 will hit stores…
There have been rumors that Nintendo’s next console will arrive in the first quarter of 2025, but there have also been rumors that it will arrive later, so it won’t be available until April at the earliest. Either way, it’s all conjecture, but we can say that the Japanese company shouldn’t wait too long.
