It’s Getting Awkward: One of The Acolyte-stars Is Now Blaming Disney!

MOVIE NEWS – After receiving many insults because of The Acolyte, one of the stars of the Star Wars series lashes out at Disney for not doing more to protect him.

In addition to legitimate criticism of the narrative and/or audiovisual quality of The Acolyte, it is unfortunately a fact that a denigration campaign also hit the Star Wars series. The writers and actors had to endure all kinds of insults, often completely unrelated to the performance of the series. In addition, it seems that all this happened without Disney trying to prevent it – at least this is the accusation that one of the stars of the series has made.

In this sense, Jodie Turner-Smith missed that the American giant made a greater effort to condemn certain attitudes of alleged fans of the work created by George Lucas 50 years ago.

“It would just be nice if the people who have all the money, (…) were showing their support and putting their feet down. Say this is unacceptable: ‘You’re not a fan if you do this.’ Make a really big statement and just see if any money leaves. I bet you it won’t, because people of color, and especially Black people, make up a very large percentage of buying power. They might find that it’s actually more lucrative for them, but everyone’s using ‘woke’ like it’s a dirty word.”

The Acolyte star hopes that one day things will change

It cannot be emphasized enough: personal attacks on the actors of a series cannot be justified by the quality of the production. Criticism is a good and helpful thing, but unfortunately, it often happens that for some, it is just an excuse to try to discredit a person or group of people they don’t like.

The British actress, who played Aniseya, the leader of the coven of witches and the mother of Mae and Osha, in the series, believes that sooner or later these harassment campaigns will end.

These are fashions that pass away. “We’re gonna get there at some point, to that place where people stop having a stick up their ass about people of color being a part of IPs that were created by white people. Do you know why? Because we’re never going to fucking stop participating,” – reacted Turner-Smith in Glamour.

But until that happens, the truth is that The Acolyte was cancelled after it failed to retain its audience after a successful premiere and caused a strong negative media reaction, which Disney and other companies seem to want to avoid at all costs, by creating groups of “super fans” to consult on ideas. Star Wars returns to Disney+ in December with the premiere of Skeleton Crew.
