Slow Horses: Season 5 Hasn’t Even Aired Yet, But Season 6 Could Be Coming?!

MOVIE NEWS – The 5th season of Slow Horses is not expected until next year, but it has already been renewed for a 6th season on Apple TV+…

Apple TV+ has no intention of getting out of the spy game. Slow Horses, based on the Slough House novel series, has been doing very well on the service since its 2022 premiere. So, it is unsurprising that the platform quickly renewed the successful spy thriller for a 6th season.

According to Tech Radar, Slow Horses has officially been renewed for a sixth season. The news comes just as Season 4 wrapped up on Apple TV+. This marks an early renewal for the series, as Season 5 was picked up back in January and will debut sometime in 2025.

In the sixth season of the series, according to the plans, our spies will have to run for their lives.

Because thanks to Diana Taverner (Kristin Scott Thomas), the deputy director general of MI5, they get involved in a “high-stakes game of revenge”. The sixth season will be inspired by the sixth and seventh books of Mick Herron’s Joe Country and Slough House series of novels. So far, six episodes have gone down each season.

Slow Horses is an award-winning series on Apple TV+

Slow Horses was a big hit on Apple TV+. The streaming service didn’t release proper numbers for the series, but the series was an award contender: lead actor Gary Oldman and co-star Jack Lowden collected BAFTA and Emmy Award nominations, while Oldman also received a Golden Globe nomination for his work. The series’ most significant win was for writing: Will Smith received a Primetime Emmy Award for his work on the series. The series was also nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award this year in the Outstanding Drama Series category.

The reviews are also remarkably uniform about the series. It has a 95 per cent “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes. All four seasons have fresh scores on the site, with seasons 2 and 4 scoring 100 per cent, while seasons 1 and 3 scored 95 and 98 per cent, respectively. The consensus on the website reads: “Slow Horses refreshes the espionage genre by letting its band of snoops be bumbling, with Gary Oldman giving a masterclass in frumpy authority.”

Slow Horses follows a group of failed MI5 agents at Slough House, a place that houses individuals who have failed their jobs but have not been fired due to their incompetence. Those assigned to Slough House have to do not-so-exciting jobs like pushing papers while enduring the verbal jabs of their boss, Jackson Lamb (Oldman). Although Slough House is seemingly at rock bottom, the team find themselves involved in some of Britain’s biggest and most dangerous cases. The series also stars Sophie Okenedo, Jonathan Pryce and Hugo Weaving.
