Steam Deck Set for Major Battery Upgrade: Longer Gaming Sessions Ahead!

Valve is continuing to improve the Steam Deck, and gamers will definitely appreciate the changes. Battery improvements are on the way. With the Steam Deck launching in Australia soon, one of Valve’s designers mentioned that they plan to improve battery life by 10-15%, depending on the game.

Remember February 2022? That was when the Steam Deck launched and almost revolutionized the market for portable gaming devices. Its success and millions of units sold encouraged companies like ASUS, Lenovo, and MSI to compete with Valve by launching their own devices. However, Steam Deck has something unique—its system is Linux-based, and its software is constantly improved with updates that the community appreciates.

Ahead of its Australian debut in November, one of Valve’s hardware engineers, Yazan Aldehayyat, gave an interview to Press Start. In the interview, he discussed Valve’s portable console and the upcoming improvements. Developers are hard at work optimizing the battery life of the Steam Deck LCD, even though the OLED version has already seen significant improvement in this area.

Steam Deck battery life is about to get better

“We’re continually investing in, even now, the first generation of the Steam Deck LCD. So we’re pushing out software updates, firmware updates, and all the improvements we’ve made for OLED, we’re trying to bring to LCD. That’s why SteamOS is coming soon. Depending on the game, users can expect 10-15% more usable battery life,” Aldehayyat explains. He adds that improving battery life is a constant goal.

“I don’t think battery life is something we’ll ever stop working on. We’re always looking to improve it, as it will impact future models as well,” he says. While we still have a few months to wait before learning more about Steam Deck 2 and its possible release, Valve is first focused on finalizing SteamOS support, which may take some time.
