Monster Hunter Wilds: Capcom Announces Beta Test with PlayStation Double Dipping! [VIDEO]

Capcom is holding a beta test for PlayStation first, and then launching a trial of the new Monster Hunter on each platform.

First, let’s talk about the Oilwell Basin area. This is a dangerous area defined by the gushing oil wells that give it its name. This area has been known to erupt into raging flames during a period of inclement weather known as the Firespring. The newly discovered Brute Wyvern Rompopolo prowls areas covered in a deep oil slick. This fearsome predator emits a poisonous gas from its tongue to weaken its prey before using its tail to inject gas into the tar covering the ground, causing bubbling eruptions.

Rompopolo often finds itself fighting for territory against the roaming Ajarakan, another previously unseen monster that calls this region home. This red-hot, fanged beast rubs its thick hide to cover itself in a searing armor. In the midst of this incredibly harsh, ever-changing environment, the artisan village of Azuz grew up around a massive central forge. While the local artisans and fearsome wildlife struggle to survive, a mysterious monster known to the locals as the “Black Flame” lurks deep beneath the basin.

Eager hunters will soon be able to experience Monster Hunter Wilds at home for the first time by participating in an open beta test on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC via Steam, with cross-play supported between all platforms. Participants will also receive a special bonus pendant to decorate their weapons or Seikret mount, as well as a helpful item pack in the full release of Monster Hunter Wilds. The Open Beta Test will include three separate experiences: the full character creation tool with character creation data that will be transferable to the full game upon release, a story trial, and the free-roaming Doshaguma Hunt.

The Story Trial lets players experience the game’s opening cinematic and basic tutorials while hunting a Chatacabra, while the Doshaguma Hunt lets players hunt the alpha of a Doshaguma pack or explore the Windward Plains. Both the Story Trial and the Doshaguma Hunt can be experienced solo, or players can use an SOS flare to form a party of up to four players online, or call for assistance from NPC Support Hunters.

The PlayStation-exclusive beta will run from 8pm Pacific on October 28th until 8pm Pacific on October 30th. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required to participate. This will be followed by the cross-platform beta, which will run from 8pm Pacific on October 31 until 7pm Pacific on November 3. A limited edition Monster Hunter Wilds-themed DualSense controller has been announced, but it will only be available in Asia, and the Monster Hunter Wilds-themed PlayStation 5 platform will only be available in Japan.

Monster Hunter Wilds will be released on February 28th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC.
