Dragon Age: The Veilguard: No DLC Coming Your Way!

BioWare has explained why Dragon Age 4 will not receive any additional content after release, even though the Trespasser was quite good in the case of the previous game, Dragon Age: Inquisition…

John Epler, Creative Director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, said in an interview that there are no plans to add additional content to the game because the team is not as large as it used to be and is now focused on the new Mass Effect. BioWare has taken the feedback seriously to improve the new Dragon Age, and the studio has also learned from Mass Effect: Andromeda: polish alone is not enough, the open world was empty, and they learned from Anthem (the multiplayer focus didn’t work, but he would work on something like that in the future):

“I think Mass Effect: Andromeda was a better game than its reception suggested, but on the other hand, I don’t think the reception was unfair. At the time of release, there were technical issues and things that didn’t work. We had done Dragon Age pre-production on versions of Dragon Age 4, and we had a version that was much more open world. But again, we ran into the same problem of how do you make it compelling or narratively interesting? The reception of Andromeda definitely solidified that.

We are a studio that was built to make single-player role-playing games. And more importantly, I think a lot of people came here to make single-player story-based RPGs. So in the end, it just made more sense to make this game the way it is as opposed to a multiplayer game. We were alienating parts of our fan base that had been with us for a long time, and we were not successfully bringing anyone else in through the multiplayer side of things. The response to Anthem was very clear that we needed to get back to the aspects of the game that we were good at, and multiplayer was getting in the way of that. It’s possible to tell a strong story in a multiplayer game. Final Fantasy XIV does that very well. Multiplayer also introduces some complications around world states. I make a big decision in my world and the world changes,” Epler said.

So the best we can expect from DLC is if Dragon Age: The Veilguard shows a boom in sales…
