PS5 Pro Resellers Are Now Forced to Sell at a Loss

PS5 Pro scalpers are getting a taste of their own medicine. They’re selling Sony’s console at a loss. PS5 Pro can be purchased in stores and there is no shortage, so speculators are forced to sell the console at a loss so as not to lose more money.

The arrival of the PS5 Pro did not bring the same stock issues or demand surge that we saw with the PlayStation 5 during its first months on the market. Back then, players eager to get into the new generation of consoles found themselves with almost no buying options, and the few available offers were bundled packs with hefty price tags. This situation has played out very differently with Sony’s new hardware.

This wasn’t the case with the PlayStation 5 Pro, as the console is costly enough on its own, and stores have sufficient stock to meet the demand. Many resellers snapped up the PS5 Pro, believing there wouldn’t be enough stock in stores, but they were wrong. Gamers in Europe and other regions can buy it at €799, but the reality is that resellers won’t be able to make a profit.

Speculators are already incurring losses, selling the PS5 Pro on sites like Wallapop or eBay for 30-50 euros below retail price. This has led some to try to unload their stock even below the official price to minimize losses. Despite this, there’s one downside for PS5 Pro users and fans of physical game formats.

PS5 Disc Reader Out of Stock

This contrasts sharply with a serious problem PS5 Pro users face: the disc reader is nearly out of stock in most stores in Spain. Sony should address the shortage as soon as possible to avoid resale and speculation, as this accessory is usually priced at 120 euros. If you are among those wanting a disc reader for your PS5 Pro, we recommend waiting until the stock is replenished.
