STEAM DECK NEWS – Valve is making the handheld PC with a more powerful display available in a new color, but it’s not the next-generation model yet.
The Steam Deck OLED will also be available in a limited edition white color. Pre-orders will begin on November 18th at 3 PM Pacific and will be available in Europe for 720 Euros (slightly more expensive than the original model, which costs 680 Euros). In addition to the new color, the case will also be white and the wipes will be the same shade. The white color is unusual for the wipes, but at least it makes them unique…
The specs are the same as before, so we don’t get any better performance or extra features: it’s the same Steam Deck OLED with 1TB NVMe SSD as before, but in white. Valve has already openly stated that it will only release a new generation device when it makes sense, because the company doesn’t want to update the hardware every year (we’ve reported this before).
The white Steam Deck OLED will be available everywhere Valve ships, and is already available in Australia (where Gabe Newell’s portable PC recently went on sale). Valve is curious to see how the white Steam Deck OLED is received, and may add more colors in the future. So if the stock runs out quickly, it could come in red later (just a guess on our part, of course).
The Steam Deck is not yet hardware, but it will continue to improve software, as the company is happy with the March 2022 launch (LCD version), so SteamOS, the Linux-based operating system, will continue to receive ongoing improvements that could improve battery usage. Of course, game support is up to the publishers, and recently there have been a few titles that no longer run on the machine (Grand Theft Auto V, for example).
So you can order the white Steam Deck OLED in one week…
