Today marks the 30th anniversary of PlayStation (and Sony is celebrating in other ways… we’ll cover that in the news later today), and to mark the occasion, Sony has put together a new video.
The video, which you can watch below, attempts to recap the last three decades of PlayStation, and features not only internally developed first-party titles (The Last of Us, God of War…), but also third-party IPs from outside the company (such as Batman and Resident Evil). Each game has a subtitle related to one of its themes. The Last of Us is about love, God of War is about family, Marvel’s Spider-Man is about sacrifice, and Metal Gear Solid 3 is about honor. Then there’s Bloodborne, which Sony says is about perseverance.
So Sony has once again admitted that Bloodborne exists. It’s been almost ten years since From Software’s game was released for PlayStation 4, and it hasn’t been released for PC or PlayStation 5. Sony owns the IP and could do anything with it, but hasn’t, while Horizon Zero Dawn, for example, has been “remastered” (presumably to make it mandatory to use a PlayStation Network account on PC).
Interestingly, Sony will temporarily take Bloodborne offline for maintenance later today. However, Reddit has pointed out that this usually happens around this time every year. Something could be done, though, as Sony could have used other IPs that have not received much attention, even though they are cult. Take Guerrilla Games’ Killzone, for example: 2013’s Killzone: Shadow Fall, was the last and one of the launch titles for the PlayStation 4. But you could cite an example from any of the major studios…
Let’s hope that Sony doesn’t let the fans down. If Demon’s Souls got stuck on the PlayStation 3, but a remake eventually made its way to the PlayStation 5 as a launch title (and hasn’t gotten a PC port since…), Bloodborne could get similar attention.
